The skull art work of Rene Gibson transforms ordinary animal skulls into beautiful pieces of wall art. As a means to honor the spirit of the animal, Rene adorns each skull with a variety of materials including gemstones, glass tile, smalti and a variety of beads ranging from simple seed beads to vintage African beads to a mix of metal beads. The process is unique to each skull giving a broad range to Rene's work.
Having had a fascination with the western way of life since childhood accompanied with an undergraduate degree in interior design, Rene creates pieces with an awareness of how they could be incorporated into a client's home. Color and pattern play a key role in her designs, but the final design is often guided by the 'will of the animal.' As such, no two designs are identical.
As Rene incorporated more and more beads and crystals into her skull work, she began to explore the art of bead embroidery and has established a line of beaded jewelry and crystal designs.
Most of Rene's sales are to private collectors and two of her skulls have been shown on the Food Network's show, Restaurant Impossible. She has also been featured in the December 2012/January 2013 issue of Western Art & Architecture magazine. As an artist living in West Palm Beach, Florida, Rene is constantly inspired by nature and her loving family.
